A clearer measure
Start with what
is in your glass.
A pour is not always one standard drink. Volume and alcohol by volume (ABV) tell you more than the size of the glass.
How we calculate this
We convert the pour to milliliters, multiply by ABV as a fraction and an approximate ethanol density of 0.789 grams per milliliter, then divide by 14 grams per US standard drink. Figures are estimates and rounded for display.
This measures alcohol content. It does not establish a safe amount to drink, predict blood alcohol, assess driving, or provide medical advice.
